Our Story

In the wake of World War II, as new communities were being built around Edinburgh, a small Sunday School began at the old Longstone Primary School. It was started by members of Charlotte Baptist Church, located in the heart of Edinburgh.

That humble beginning in 1949 eventually led to the creation of what we now call WHBC. Our current building, located in Clovenstone, was officially opened in 1973 under the leadership of the late Rev. Alex Hardie. As our community grew, so did our space, with an extension added in 1982 to accommodate our expanding congregation.

We’re proud of our rich history and the journey that has brought us to where we are today!

The church today

At Wester Hailes Baptist Church, we’re all about building a welcoming, caring, and loving community—one that extends these values to our neighbours and the surrounding area.

Our facilities are used Monday through Friday by the Dove Centre, a local charity supporting older residents. We also engage with the local primary school through assemblies, Scripture Union, and other initiatives. Our parent and toddler group, Munchkins, meets on Monday mornings every other week—check out the latest Bulletin on our Media page for specific dates and times.

We come together on Sundays for worship at 10:30am, with a creche, Sunday School for younger children, and a Bible class for older kids. In the evenings, we gather again at 6:00pm. We also meet for a midweek prayer gathering every Wednesday at 7:30pm in the church.

If you're looking for a church community or want to get involved in any of our activities, we’d love for you to join us and see what we're about.
